EDIT does not work on my i16 phone. Did work on my i12. Almost useless as is for me
This app has been great since my actual 48GX broke, and I use it often. this is the reason I give it 5 stars. that being said, while it still works on my phone, it has stopped working on my computer, where the interface is stuck, and the problem is still present if I delete and redownload the app.
my real calculator has developed lcd rot so having this app available has been great. please keep up the great work.
When I first opened the app it asked if I wanted to recover memory. The yes/no buttons are unresponsive
Perfect - preformed very well until i had to delete and reload. the bottom keys {0, . , spc, +} are now very flaky. verified it’s not my screen... any ideas? i won’t “upgrade” the iOS on my ‘20SE because i don’t feel like allowing apple to purposely degrade my battery.
Doesn’t work anymore
I loved the original calculator. I love a version of the calculator on Android. I hate this one. I have to tab the buttons several times before it does the action. I have tried on 4 different iOS devices and the behavior is exactly the same. That makes it useless. Nice try, though.
Slow to load up and register key presses. Makes this annoying to use as a calculator.
I loved this app, but sadly it has stopped working on my iphone 13, SW 14.4.1. The interface freezes and becomes unresponsive or it starts acting like I'm pushing the "Off" button. and clears the screen over and over.
Don't update if you haven't already. This new version introduces SIGNIFICANT lag into key input, sometimes just ignoring input altogether, other times sending the last 3 commands through all at once. This makes it unusable. Also, hitting the drop button somehow advances the time... This is the opposite of an update. This is a *downgrade*.
I love how it looks just like the old HP48! But sometimes, especially when first opening the app, it doesn’t register buttons that are pushed. Also, unlike some other HP48 emulator apps, it doesn’t offer any haptic feedback to help you to be sure you really pressed a button.
I’ve had this app for years and it has been working perfectly fine up until your last “fix”. Now some of the keys won’t work. Like so many others I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled, several times, but unfortunately the problem remains.
Like many other reviewers, I’ve been suffering with the button response problems on i48 for a long time. Recently the arrow keys stopped moving the cursor one character or row at a time, instead deleting the entire entry, going to the top/bottom of the stack, or erratically moving around within menus. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling but that didn’t help. This new problem took i48 from just annoying for basic functions to pretty much useless. I happened to find iHP48 in the App Store, and it seems to have been out for a few months now. So far so good with this replacement.
Stopped working recently. I’m assuming with the newest iOS, it stopped.
I used this one for years and loved it. Apparently it is no longer being updated and does not work with the latest iOS.
Thanks for the icon update! This calculator allowa for reliable and fast tiping unlike competing ones.
Once an excellent copy of the hp48G, now no longer working. App and buttons completely unresponsive.
Sad
Downloaded this originally so I wouldn’t have to carry my HP in my bag. It was harder to use and a little laggy with touch. This recent update fixed all or that and pretty much any complaint I had. In my case a legit replacement for my i48 when I’m not at my desk. Thank you for creating this and the recent update!!
Use it all the time, even more now that my real 48 finally died.👍
Thanks for this app! All of us HP lovers really appreciate it! Very realistic just like the ones we used to carry around everywhere. I had a 48sx, but this is super close to it. Would be nice if the “pi” button actually gave you 3.14159265... instead of the symbol, as it’s a pain to type that out every time. Also, sometimes a button will ‘click’ when you push on a number but if your finger was off a bit, the number won’t register. I still have trouble with my iPhone 6s and the back arrow erasing the whole line, not just one digit. Later iPhones do not have this issue. These are minor glitches and overall this is an awesome app! Highly recommended.
Update broke up - uninstalled and reinstalled and back running
I have been using this app for over a year, and have had to recreate all my variables and formulas more often than I can recount because the app freezes unexpectedly, and there is no way to get it working again without deleting and reinstalling it; thus losing everything you have stored. Extremely tired and frustrated by this behavior... I have decided to delete it for good! Good riddance!!!
As a proud HP 48 owner I find myself turning to this calculator often. It could stand some updates - clearer calculator graphic, support for larger/ higher resolution display, etc. but the main thing is the functionality, and you can't help but feel a little warm and fuzzy when you fire it up and see your 48 staring back at you!
When going into the Modes menu, hitting the up or down arrow jumps all over the place. You can’t scroll down through the Flags to change them. Would the author be interested in maintaining m48+?
Installed the app and it came up the first time and was able to test run a few calcs. Beyond that it comes up with a blank display area and you’re not able to see any lines you type in. Complete waste of time. Someone please bring back the M48!
It looks good, but the UI can carry between "sluggish" and just plan unresponsive. I don't know how they coded the button pushes, but there seems to be at least 17x more code involved than there really should be. A bit surprising, given this app's history (4 y.o.) and review stats. I'll try again in a few months and see if it's any better. Maybe they published a bad release...
Half of key presses simply don’t register, making fast entry and calculations impossible. This app really needs work in order to be taken seriously.
App had been working OK up to this week. Tried to use it today and the screen was just frozen - would take no key strokes. Deleted the app and reinstalled - same result. Rebooted the phone - same result. Deleted the app, rebooted phone, reinstalled app - same result. Deleted the app, rebooted phone and now there's still some i48 code kernel hanging around on my phone that won't go away, with a generic app icon. When I delete it and reboot, it comes back! If I try to launch it it immediately crashes. Has this app become a vampire? What the heck happened?? And...where have all the HP 48 apps gone in the app store???
I love it... just like my old 48GX. I have yet to find a calculator app where I can assign units to numbers and add 5 feet + 16 meters and instantly convert to any unit. Great job!
I used this everyday on my original iPhone SE. I had to upgrade my phone to a new iPhone SE 2020 and this doesn’t work. It jams up and hard to use the buttons. I’m hoping a fix for this.
Less than a shadow of the quality and experience of m48. I wish m48 and m48+ would return!
I owned an HP48cv back in the day and grabbed this when I was looking for a calculator that could do engineering notation (who knew such a simple thing would be so hard to find in an app). This has worked flawlessly for me and every time I use it is a walk down memory lane. It has been a great experience and seems to function just as I would expect on my iPhone X. Thanks for providing such a fun tool!
It’s buggy and the input does not always register. I took it off
very, very buggy. key clicks are missed more than registered. locks up much
It worked fairly well at first but then froze solid no matter what I tried. I reinstalled and avoid the info page to avoid crashes. The speed setting is fun.
Compared to my 48GX IPAD it is very slow
It is difficult to type fast. I often miss keys and have to start over
IOS 13 seems to have messed up the backspace button.
I’ve been using HP Calculators since the early eighties. So long that I can’t use “algebraic” calculators. This is an excellent emulator, and very true to my original HP-48GX, which I’ve used for 27-years. It is starting to get a little buggy, mostly because there have been quite a few iOS updates since the last update to the app, which is starting to cause a few issues. But, for routine calculations I need to do in the field, it still functions well.
Love the HP-48 emulator, it’s just something is going on with keyboard touch sensitivity. Misses the touch 30% of the time. I noticed Blue Shift Undo doesn’t work either.
This is not as good as previous hp48 emulators. I have found it to be very buggy. The worst aspect is how it seems to register only about half of the touchscreen key presses. I’m a seasoned hp48 user so i can do calculations quickly but just entering the numbers is a problem. It misses so many key presses everything gets fouled up. Same goes for all keys, like alpha, shift left, and shift right. Entering engineering units is particularly painful. I’ve also had it crash during changes of some basic mode settings. I never had such troubles with the same phone on previous emulators so i can only reason that it’s the app. Finally the app doesn’t display the alpha or shift icons on the “hp’s” screen. Rather they’re off to the left and in the case, where i’m not used to seeing them. Alpha icon is almost invisible, being black against a dark gray background. Update: the app crashed one day and no amount of input would fix it. Decided to uninstall and abandon it
The alpha key lacks an indicator, and holding down any keys prevents display updates. This is very visible when holding alpha to enter a alpha string. The display stops updating, but when alpha is released all typed characters appear. I've also had issues getting the shift keys to activate sometimes: the highlighting around the key shows up (having that is great), but the shift indicator does not appear, and pressing another key doesn't use its shifted function.
There is a bug in the emulation code that I have been unable to fix that can cause the app to lock up. What seems to fix the problem for most people is it press each of the buttons starting at the top right, moving left then down a row and back to the right an so on. It can sometimes come back after a couple of rows and other times takes almost all of them.
I have the original plus This emulator on both my phone and ipad. I have owned, and loved, this HP calculator since 1993, I think. Before that I owned the HP11c, which I loved, And the HP 48sx, which I loved. In 2002(?) I got the HP 49g+, which, ah, I like. Anyway it’s the 48gx that have used and loved the most, both as a calculator and as an emulator. BTW I had an emulator of this as early as the turn of the century on my computer at work.
When I installed this application it presented a memory loss screen. I used the same calculator in college and recalled if you press and hold the bottom left key, and the A and F key, and then release them all at the same time you get a prompt recover your memory. I tried it, thinking what do I have to lose...and it worked. I selected Yes to recover the memory and now have a fully functioning RPN graphing calculator. I remember paying about 400 or 500 bucks for this in 1987! Kudos and thank you!
I’ve been a HP RPN user for 4 decades. This app is a great emulation of my real HP48GX. Unfortunately, it sometimes hangs up. Occasionally, I have to uninstall and reinstall the app to revive it. The developer needs to bug fix/update for the newer iOS versions.
I have been using this app for over 5 years and it’s a definite plus to own on your device if RPN is your preferred calculation input. Lately with version iOS 12, the app has started to malfunction. Much like how felt when my “2” button stuck on my real 48GX, my anxiety has slipped into the app version on my phone. Please review the code for functionality in this version and future versions of iOS.
The equation solver locks up the app
